Everyone has something to share. With the tools we have at Squidoo, writing about your latest craft or DIY project, decorating ideas, best recipes, favorite films, and the products you use every day has never been easier and we’re excited to get more of these tools in front of you.

One of these tools is the new how to format that is just perfect for sharing craft, DIY and home decor projects.

As part of our ongoing education Squidoo Magazines Editor Stephanie Mangino created this tutorial on how to create a Squidoo How To Lens (click on the image to start the video on YouTube).

Here is the link to create your own How-To lens: If you try a How To lens please post it in the comments section of this post for a possible feature.

Also a big thank you to Margaret Schindel for letting us use her Romantic “Queen of Hearts” Earrings Project lens to create this video.

I love the video and used it on my blog yesterday :)

  • karaleeburke

I have an easy quinoa, lentil, vegetable stew I can’t wait to post. It literally takes less than 10 minutes to prep, 30 minutes to cook, and it’s ready to serve. Perfect for when you have last minute company.

  • HappyCircle

Great youtube video. Real easy to follow. I have a couple of my family’s recipes that I can’t wait to share.

  • aaalyssadeboer

I made this how to lense yesterday.. not even nearly as good as that one though! great pointers!

  • PjeroPjer

Very good and detailed explanation! Thank you very much for this outstanding lens!

  • artbyrodriguez

    It does look super simple!

  • adventuretravelshop

Good work! Excellent in fact! Thanks.

  • Lionrhod

Awesome! Thank you so much! LOL I had to pause the video several times. Right in the middle, I got a brilliant idea for a lens! Coming soon to a lens near you!

  • Snakesmum

The video make it look very easy – shall have to do some How To lenses soon

  • MartinTim

A “How to” article is helpful in daily life, especially if it’s related to technological issues, and troubleshooting. Most people often share the best parts of their knowledge via blogs and youtube videos. Even “How to” get the best out of instant messaging.

  • CherylFay

    Great detailed how to video!

  • samiahussain

    This is cool :)

  • yoursfoolie

Hey, got to hear your voice! Good humored and reassuring ~ just like the site and the community you administer. Thanks for being there for us all…

  • glowchick

This was a great video~ although I am not making a DIY lens currently, it’s good to know if I did I could share it on Squidoo.

  • teriann

love the new tool and it makes for sharing ‘how to’ so much easier. Like usual Squidoo you’ve done it looking out for us. thumbs up! You couldn’t have picked a better example than Margaret’s earring tutorial.

    • MSchindel

      Thank you, Teri!

  • nancycarol

With all due respect to the many talented lensmasters we have on Squidoo, I think you picked the perfect lens to show off the How To format. Margaret Schindel does excellent work, and it certainly shows in this video. Thanks also to Stephanie for her work on putting the video together. Well done, both of you!

    • MSchindel

      Thanks so much, Nancy! <3

  • flinnie

Great how-to video. Thanks for sharing.

  • Tom Maybrier

The video format is really nice for visual learners!

  • MSchindel

Thanks so much to Stephanie for putting together this awesome video and for choosing my Romantic “Queen of Hearts” Earrings Project lens as her example. I was so honored when she asked me! And many thanks to Bonnie for doing such a terrific job of promoting this video tutorial to show as many lensmasters – and prospective lensmasters – how to make an effective How To lens on Squidoo! :)

    • RubyHRose

It is a great video, well done!

  • patgoltz

I just checked. The add photo issue hasn’t been fixed. There is NO SLOT for me to search for an image on my computer, so I can’t upload anything. I have complained about this bug several times, over a several month period, and nothing has been done. Until that’s fixed, I will be unable to use the new howto format.

  • Arachnea

Great info. I’m motivated to do a how-to module I have in mind. Thanks.

  • Barbara Radisavljevic

I have a tough time viewing videos because of my slow connection. I get lot more out of something I can just read.

  • wleon63

Really great video this is. Easy to follow too. Some great information.

  • Debs

I’ve used this format once…it was great fun! Good reminder to go build some more!

  • Laura Brown

I pulled the how-to link into my browser bookmarks. You (or someone here) wrote about doing that for the Amazon post format. It’s a great idea and makes it much easier to start a lens now that we are getting a few different formats.

  • RubyHRose

Great video and how to steps, plus super cute!

  • Marlene McPherson

This is a great format and thank you for the very informative video on how to put it all together! Will definitely use this in the future.

  • 0ctavias0fferings

    Great tutorial

  • sandyspider

I have not tried the How to Lens yet. Good to bookmark this one.

  • katiecolette

Great video tutorial. The format is very easy to work with :)

  • BetterToLaugh

Thanks, Bonnie- I like this new tool. Would there be any advantage to “re-creating” a previously created lens into this new format?

  • sue826

    Sounds simple and easy!

  • shermanmorrison

I’ve been a way from Squidoo for several months and didn’t know about the “How-To” module. I like it!

  • sweettiggy

Hi I tried making a how to lens and for some reason my work would not save no matter how many times I pressed save it did not..lost all that I had typed in..very frustrating can anyone tell me what I did wrong.

  • OrganicGiftsByDiana

I just made one too ! For some reason, my 3 photos in the “steps” section are not uploading though :(

    Here’s my new How-to lens:

  • niicki

I haven’t tried this yet, but I love this format. Great, informative video, too – thanks a lot for sharing!

  • buteoflyer

Can I go back and make an existing how to lens into this new format, or do I have to completely recreate it?

  • SoundFinance

I haven’t been around for a while but I’m so glad I read about this! It looks like a great new feature. Thanks Squidoo.

  • mountainmistjewelry

I’m having trouble with the how to module for my lens Homemade Hamburger Buns. It’s in Work in Progress status because I don’t want to publish without pictures.
I can upload the main image. However, I can’t get photos uploaded to the individual steps. It seems like a photo was uploaded because it says “Remove photo”. However I don’t see the photo while editing or in the preview. The photos have been compressed in Microsoft Picture Manager to 27 KB or less.
I want to apply for Giant Squidship as soon as I can get this lens published. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
