How to use Twitter Part 2 (Our Lensmaster Tips)

Screen Shot 2014-04-29 at 10.12.48 AMAll of you are just awesome!

We had great feedback and comments from lensmasters on how to use Twitter from the post How to use Twitter (psst…you need to get more personal).

Also a bunch of people have asked where to find the SquidTeam on Twitter.

You can follow us here:

Squidoo, Our main Squidoo account - @Squidoo

Bonnie Diczhazy, Head of Community – @bdkz (that’s me)

Stephanie Mangino, Magazines Editor – @StephMangino

Robin Svedi, Community Organizer – @_rms

Susan Deppner, Community Organize – @susan52

A few tips from our lensmasters who also use Twitter…

@Squid_Rich - Phrase a tweet as a solution to a problem. There’s always people out there looking for answers.

@thatgrrl  - Tell them why you followed, where you found them, that you read their site, something. People who do get followed often don’t always notice new followers. So, introducing yourself is great and you are far more likely to be followed back.

@rauspitz - Hashtags are great but a lot of smart Twitter types suggest that you keep it to three in any given Tweet. They also suggest that you keep the hashtag fairly short and specific.

@KimberlySchimme – Be generous is the best advice. I’m happy to share something that a fellow writer has done that really spoke to me or addressed a question I had.

@GeekGranny – I tweet as if the message is only going to my sister Carol. This reminds me to be personal and if possible amusing. Focusing on one specific person makes it a more real tweet.

@beadathomemom - Twitter is grouped with the rest of the social media….it takes time to be social and focus not to get caught up in what everyone else is saying..what you may think should only take 5 minutes before you know it a whole hour has gotten away from you. Focus and being deliberate about why you are there would be my best tips.

Wow, interesting..I do not use twitter, very busy with all I do already but thinking of squeezing it in!

    • WitStop

Twitter is an important tool, katiesnow — and it’s increasing in its reach.

If you search a bit, you can find ways to automate your posts (e.g., Buffer, HootSuite, and others). I’ve used a few of these tools over the years, but I’ve really found Buffer to be my favorite. I use it to share on the moment and to schedule my tweets (and Facebook posts) far into the future. In fact, I have tweets in my hopper that won’t post until next year!

Using an automated system can help you promote your Squidoo lenses at different times, and most platforms take just a few minutes to set up and load.

The only twitter I appreciate at present is outside on the trees. But I can see its value, particularly in business, or for building a circle of online acquintances

Appreciate all that I am learning from our fabulous Tweetmasters.

  • DeniseMcGill

Great advise. I’m still trying to navigate all this social stuff. I’m old school. What’s wrong with a phone? But I’ll get it! lol.

I am new to all the social media except Facebook. I have attended webinars on how to use Twitter so I will try to take advice and be more social.

  • normyo-yonormyo

One tip I just thought of when it comes to using twitter, you can use it as inspiration for writing a lens. You never know when you will run into a tweet that sends you to a subject that interests you and inspires you two write a lens. So even if you do not use twitter to tweet, you might be able to use it to get informed and inspired.

  • jmchaconne

    Thanks for the tips!

  • sheilamarie

I like the write as if to someone you know advice. Thank you, @GeekGranny ! Actually all of these tips are excellent! Thanks to everyone!

  • shermanmorrison

  • cercis70

Some great tips from fellow Squidoo lens makers. Thanks a bunch! Also, Bonnie, thanks for listing pertinent address for SquidTeam members.

  • flinnie

Thanks for the tips and info.

  • JNTRoofing

    Thanks for sharing..

  • 0ctavias0fferings

Twitter can be a fantastic tool and it can also take all day if you’re not careful and disciplined … I’m not very disciplined so I tend to keep the Twitter page up while I’m doing other things. Following a hash tag about something you’re interested in can be a great way to find like-minded people or look for questions to answer on your favourite subjects.

  • Avajas216

Thank you for the tips. Just started using my Twitter account, and have already linked it to share on my FB as well.

  • VictorVoice

I signed up for twitter 2 years ago and since then haven’t really given it much interest. now after reading this, i think i will. facebook has gotten me way beyond hooked. i wonder why twitter hadn’t. let’s see now, since i’m going to give it another try.

  • hjohn1024

Great post. I have a Twitter account but I am not actively engaged. Now that I know the value I will make an effort to utilize this medium more. Thanks for posting this.

  • MaggieMoo12

GeekGranny has the best tip to keep it personal but I haven’t really got the bug for social media I’d rather be outside

  • Arachnea

This is really great info. I almost missed this.

  • ArtByLinda

    Great twitter tips!

  • aswaha yah
