Being YOU!

Screen Shot 2013-02-06 at 2.41.21 PMThe best way to start succeeding on Squidoo is to be YOU!

This sounds simple…and it is.

Make sure that you’re letting your personality shine through on your lenses and your bio. Your audience would much rather know that you’re an avid skier or expert crafter or model railroad enthusiast than see a generic lens library and bio.

This doesn’t  mean you have to get too personal, but it does mean that you need to take a few risks in letting a part of yourself through.

Here are a few bio’s that we love:

Good points, people want to connect with the writer! :-)

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/RenaissanceWoman2010 RenaissanceWoman2010

I second that! And, I think those are great bio’s featured above.

    Very nice

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Wednesday_Elf Wednesday_Elf

I love learning more about the writer/lensmaster when I read a Squidoo lens. I always visit their bio page when I ‘meet’ someone new for the first time.

    Good point indeed!

When I came to Squidoo that has been my intent and hope my personality shows through in my lenses…great picks above!

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Lovelifelaughter Lovelifelaughter

I hope that I’ve managed to do this in all my lenses, but I have seen some very well ranked lenses which say almost mnothing, which seems a bit strange.

Personality is very important. As they say “First impression is the last impression.”

I always try to put some of me in my lenses.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Kalafina Kalafina

I love squidoo because I can share so much of me! I hope it shows through. Great quest idea!

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/SmokeybonesJr SmokeybonesJr

Honesty and Integrity in what I post and what I say. I want people that come to my lens know that I mean what I say and will provide then with the best information possible. Squidoo is Great! I am Addicted :-)

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/MSchindel MSchindel

This was an eye-opener for me! In fact, I just trimmed my lensmaster bio significantly last week and replaced a lot of the content with a link to my “about me” lensography, which gives me much more room for storytelling. I guess I’ll go back and flesh it out again! :)

I always try to write about something I’m excited or passionate about. It always shows when a lensmaster really cares about his or her topic. Thanks for another terrific post!

Wow! The three cited Lensmaster Bios are absolutely fabulous! What a wallop this small but important article packs! Thank you for promoting it with a reading Quest. My eyes are further opened to what might be possible with my own bio and lenses.

Thanks for the reminder, sometimes I forget and write very “technically”, without a voice. This quest came at a good time!

Yeah, I need to remind myself of this. I am planning a lot of informational lenses, but need to have my personality come through. Thanks for this reminder Bonnie.

I like to keep things simple which is why my bio is short. If I show too much of my personality I could wind up scaring some people.

My bio is quite detailed in regards to what I wish to accomplish here at Squidoo. However whilst it does state what I currently do for a living and a couple of general interests, I don’t think it is necessary, or appropriate to have significant parts of my life exposed for all and sundry to see lol.. The personality of the writer is generally distinguished in his or her writing style imo.
