Bug fix: Amazon reporting now working (plus some Amazon sales tips)

Megan Casey by on Thu, Nov 10th, 2011

With help from the Amazon team, Squidoo reporting for Amazon sales is now fixed.

All sales made during the reporting brownout have been captured and added back in to your reporting. Nothing missing.

Thanks for your patience while we got this ironed out with Amazon.

In related news, Amazon sales are flying this month and we’re only 10 days in to November. It’s a confluence of high seasonal shopping demand online with, I believe, a higher level of quality in the product review and item ‘recommendation’ lenses that you guys have all been making. A few tips for making the most of the inbound:

  • Keep each lens narrowly focused on one topic at a time. That’s the whole point of lenses, to have one unique lens for each single interest or idea or product you love, and have all those lenses stack up into a kind of online portfolio of your favorite stuff.
  • Review your lens titles to make sure they are specific but not overly pitchy when it comes to product lenses. “Rare Ford Thunderbird Gifts (That My Dad Loved!)” is a great title. It blends specificity and searchability of topic with a real human flair.
  • Be selective with the Amazon Spotlight modules and the way you organize them on your lens. Try cutting the clutter (all the extra bells and whistles) if it’s burying your story and your items.
  • Imbue each lens with story – and most of all, genuinely leverage the human desire to buy something that a real person has reviewed and recommended.
