Today we’re pleased to introduce you to LifeAhead on Squidoo, Rick in real life. He’s another of our recent Lens of the Day authors and we’re thrilled to have him here on Squidoo. Learn more about Rick from our insightful interview then be sure to visit his lenses.
What brought you to Squidoo? I’ve known about Squidoo for a long time. My StonehavenLife blog is about DIY, and woodworking so Squidoo offers me a vehicle to write about topics outside the home improvement genre. The lens aspect of Squidoo is perfect for someone like me with a lot of wildly different interests to explore.
You mention in your bio that you like to “scan the horizon for trends” and, indeed, your first two lenses are very current topics. What else is trending on your lensmaking list? I’ve always been somewhat of a “jack of all trades” so I tend to look at what’s happening in the world from a broad perspective. And I’m a sponge – seeking out and soaking up bits and pieces of what interests me at the moment – assessing how it might fit the big picture. Business, energy, and climate change are high on my interest list, and since the 2008 Recession, I’ve been closely following global economic, political and social issues. I’m particularly fascinated and admittedly frustrated by the lack of cohesive action on the economy, climate change and our aging infrastructure by our policymakers and the long-term implications for future generations. The industrial age is sunsetting. Investments in education, creativity, connectivity and clean technologies are key to a more productive transition to the networked economy.
If you could travel to one place you’ve never been, where would it be? I’ve never been much of a traveler so there’s just about everywhere to choose from. It would definitely be a destination with a very large or very old engineering or architectural marvel like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai or the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
What can Squidoo do for you? Creativity atrophies in an echo chamber where everyone who’s there has similar viewpoints. I’m always interested in opinions and points of view that differ from mine – it’s how we broaden our knowledge – so the diverse nature of the Squidoo community should make it a great place to trade ideas and converse with people on all points of the compass.
