Meet Leigh_Stratton, a teacher who’s new to Squidoo but ready with big plans for a series of lenses mostly unrelated to her teaching profession. You’ll learn more about what she has in mind in our interview:
How did you find Squidoo? I have been working on creating a blog in my professional life, wherein I want to share various activities for students with significant disabilities (the population I teach) and hopefully in return stumble upon a network of other teachers or specialists with their own materials to share. To get this started, I searched around for popular blog sites and wanted to find something as “user-friendly” as possible (given that I am very, very new at this). Squidoo popped up on every list I found of recommended blog sites and something about the layout really struck me; then I decided I wanted to create a Squidoo unrelated to teaching (most of the time at least) to very specifically give myself a non-work project to do in my free time.
In your first lens you wrote about some of your guilty pleasures (and I’m sure most of us can relate). What else is on your lensmaking list? I’m in the process of writing a lens about some easy (though I guess it’s all subjective) vegetarian Indian recipes. I’ve written a lot of it but I’m currently stuck in the exciting if not agonizing process of discovering new modules. I’m determined to make this lens more interactive! I’m hoping to have it up by Monday.
If you could travel to one place you’ve never been, where would it be? Anywhere in Provence, France. I have never left the country (and barely left the east coast for that matter) and I have always wanted to travel to Provence, France in particular (though I’ll take any of the obvious European countries) to see if I remember any of my high school French and completely immerse myself in the culture of food, landscape, and art.
What can Squidoo do for you? I am really enjoying the personalization and creative freedom of Squidoo. The only thing I could think of is that I would love to see some other charities offered as recipients of any funds earned.
Cupcakes or muffins? Muffins. I love a cupcake, truly I do, but if push came to shove I’d take a muffin any day.
