We’re Retiring The CafePress Module

Screen Shot 2014-02-28 at 1.42.01 PM

CafePress was one of our first Squidoo modules, and it’s been a great addition for lensmasters. Unfortunately, due to a number of internal and external issues we are now forced to retire the module.

The CafePress module will soon be automatically removed from lenses. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

This seems to be following a pattern. I remember when the Zazzle modules were removed, and then recently we’re now not allowed to have more than 10 Zazzle links on a lens. Will CafePress be following Zazzle’s lead?

The same rules that apply to Zazzle links will apply to CafePress. A 10 link limit.

I thought it was 9 links? Has it been upped to 10. That would be great. Makes so much sense for top 10 lists (or top 5 if you want to have a picture of something linked AND have a text link.)

CafePress is the reason I joined Squidoo 7 years ago. :’(

Yep, CP and Zazzle brought me here. Alas, farewell.

This goes a long way toward making Squidoo less spammy. Obviously, anyone with CafePress and Zazzle accounts can post on Facebook or their own blogs. I have accounts on both places, but Squidoo is a different animal. Thanks again.

I never had a CafePress store but used the module to promote products related to my special interests, like infertility awareness and small farming. I don’t consider such topics “spammy” at all and it’s a shame that now I can no longer easily share products related to promoting these issues (and there are no equivalents on Amazon).

There is absolutely nothing spammy about these products! And it is still quite easy to use html coding in a text module to utilize CP or Zazzle to fit your lens topic.

Thanks for the head up, I never used cafepress on many lenses.

The module hasn’t been working for months so not surprised. Though it is a shame since it was a great way to promote highly niche products not available via Amazon. I had several lenses which benefited greatly from it in the past, I suppose I will retire those lenses now as well.

I had a feeling, the module hasn’t been working…too bad, because I have a cafepress account and had good success selling from my lenses.

I haven’t used CafePress myself, but I feel sorry for those who did.

Bonnie, when retiring modules, why doesn’t Squidoo give lensmasters more than one day’s notice? This notice was posted yesterday and the CafePress modules are already gone. That doesn’t give us much time to copy and save off our written content that was included in our CafePress modules.

I was starting to run into problems with this module. Had to modify a couple of lenses that had it because the initial items I had weren’t showing up properly. Hope to see more modules added.

I don’t sell on CafePress or Zazzle or any other of the sites like them. But, it was a nice way to bring an extra image in to illustrate your post and help someone else who had something worth selling/ promoting. I like Etsy for the handmade things for the same reason. I have an account on the site but not a shop. Anyway, it is a shame to see these modules go. I liked helping the little guy rather than having Amazon as the only option (sometimes eBay).
