So Crafty 101: Share Your Crafty Powers

33362676_150c3362fbWhen you love something, you just can’t help but teach others about it.

Squidoo’s So Crafty Magazine is all about teaching people how to make awesome crafts — with yarn, paper, needle, thread, found objects, and so much more. If you can fashion materials into something beautiful and new, it’s a project perfect for So Crafty.

But with so many people getting into new crafts every day, we need to teach people all the basics, and we would love our crew of crafty lensmasters to be the instructors they turn to with the utmost trust. If you want to teach others about your favorite craft, we’re calling on you to begin at the beginning — starting newbies off slow and then perhaps helping them build expertise throughout the year. If you’re interested in becoming a teacher, with lenses featured prominently in So Crafty Magazine, take a look at our latest quest Squidoo Craft Club Quest. We’re looking for writers who offer step-by-step instructions, great photos, tools, resources, even your own videos (if you can) — teach in the best way you know how. If you’re not already a Craft Club member, it’s easy to join. Just go here:

Show a new knitter how to cast on, and start making a potholder. Explain about the tools you need to create a fabulous fairy village. Let someone new to sewing feel confident, not fearful, when they approach a sewing machine. Describe what you need to do, no matter what your favorite craft, so that a child could understand. Don’t assume a reader already knows something. When in doubt, explain. In essence, roll your middle-school art and Home Ec teachers into one and have fun!

We’ll contact the writers of great lenses about becoming ambassadors for their craft or crafts and regular contributors to the magazine, with plenty of support and guidance from the magazine team. We’re always here to help as a sounding board and helpful hand for writers. We’re here to do our best to make your work shine even brighter (it’s all the glitter, you know!) We can’t wait to see all you teachers in action (and to learn a few new things ourselves, too!)

With your help, 2014 will be an absolutely beautiful year!

I will be doing this. Now to choose a technique to teach……

  • terilass

This is exciting. I am hoping to learn a few new crafts and maybe share a few as well.

  • Larkabout

I would love to learn to crochet. I have the hooks, yarn, and even an instruction book. A video would be great as I just don’t seem to get it from the book. Anyone? I would also love to learn what I can do with my saved wine corks (an embarrassing large amount but some were given by friends). This is going to be great.

I already have a lens “needlecraft-superior” that has many crafts on it,and it’s in the So-Crafty magazine. I wrote it 2 years ago, so far it has had 9 likes in 2 years, you have a great idea here, but I would like to see more views of what I already have in the magazine before I venture further with more lens, as I feel this lens is of good value to crafts, if not please let me know how to improve it.

There are certainly a whole host of talented crafters already on Squidoo from what I have seen. This should do extremely well.

Oh Yeah! Just what I was looking for…thank you squidoo for your ever continued support to us.

  • DeniseMcGill

I am very excited about this too. The consinsus of opinion is that it is hard to choose just one technique to teach. Can we jump into more than one?

  • Ruthi aka abitosunshine
