Today I was joined by Seth Godin (Squidoo Founder) and Gil Hildebrand (Squidoo Chief Engineer) on a live conference call with 150 of our Giant Squids to discuss some of the details of our updated policy.
You can listen to a recording of this call right here. The actual call starts at about 3 minutes into the recording and I apologize for the “beeps”. Those are from people entering the call.
Many of the questions that came in were very similar so we boiled them down to the 4 most requested ones which included: What is prompting the changes at Squidoo? What actions are being taken to remove spam and what happens if my lens gets flagged? Can you clarify what you mean by “ugly buttons” or too many affilate links? and What do you see as the best way for Giant Squids to lead by example?
I think if you listen to the whole recording you’ll get these answers and much more!
Here are some nice comments from around the community about the call:
“I am re-committing myself to my work/fun at Squidoo.”
“You, Gil, and Seth are all so authentic that I am all the more excited about being here, now, at this time in Squidoo’s story.”
“The main message: Create unique content that you can be proud of, don’t try to cheat the system, make your lenses personal, build trust with your readers.”
“Message I got was “lead by example”. It was really nice to hear the voices behind the curtain who want Squidoo to be the best it can be and always work towards that goal.”
“That’s why I love Squidoo! Listening in on that call was very encouraging and I’m glad they’re cleaning up house and making sure it stays a great place for writers!”
This is why we love Squidoo and are committed the amazing content that we see everyday. We’re excited about the future and can’t wait to see YOUR next lens.
