New SquidLiking Policy on Squidoo

Screen Shot 2013-03-04 at 11.22.30 AMToday we’re introducing a new policy on SquidLiking. From today forward each IP address will only be able to SquidLike 20 lenses per 24 hour period which comes out to 140 SquidLikes per week.

We think this is a fair number of SquidLikes to encourage both participation and fairness. As always SquidLike the lenses that you love and that add value to the Squidoo community.

We’re confidant that our users will still be able to celebrate their favorite new lenses by giving SquidLikes with this new policy.

Bonnie Diczhazy (bdkz) is Editor of the SquidooHQ Blog and Head of Community here at Squidoo.com.

I didn’t spend much time liking lenses, but now there is a hard limit on liking, I have an urge to go out liking as many lenses as possible.

        Thanks- MichelleElynHogan…i catch your point..

One can give 20 squid-likes means one will read 20 lens and give 20 likes-is
that it works is that the purpose-are you sure about this–

        Cool–now i have a questions here-

whats your stats software saying about–what’s the average visitor time of
the lens for a complete lens reader and multiply the times with 20 -what’s the
commonsense sounds- if a lens take average of 20 minutes to read to justify a
lens good or bad its almost 400 minutes to give 20 squid likes in normal–am i
wrong–am i missing something because i know i the best fool who didn’t got the
normal things and this time again surely -please tell me what i am
missing–isn’t 400 minutes = almost more then 7 hours. and how possible he will
daily give 20 squid likes and in a week everyday he will pass the time squid–is
there anybody who born to read only squidoo. .in that case is there still a not
a big hole??? Is there still a not something where one can easily manipulate the
squid search and ranking what’s you have based on likes–why not your software
working the way it should work—like if someone gives like within 5 minutes
then it will suspect as spam and he will not allow to give more likes for 3
days–or your search result will ne more emphasis the other logic’s human factors
like lens staying time – individual module liking– liking box spacing
flexibility under the modules–or there are lots of things that it can work
naturally what your software team will more more accurately suggest then me—if
you people are really honest about the squid likes issue and don’t want to see
the spam’s it and deal without your marketing priority rather then your honesty
and love of squdoo then give the perfection with logics and emotion–just filter
the like with more human factors and Lessing the benefits of it–then it should
work perfectly and every like will not treat fo others as almost a bugs–if i
don’t missed a big point then it should be like this–or i missed–please then
catch it for me and answer me .

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/chi_kung chi_kung

on some lenses you can read the text in 2-4 minutes because then you just get
amazon modules! and if there is a reciprocity in place then it is very
easy to like hundreds of lenses!

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/theraggededge theraggededge

How about you only ‘like’ the good ones? So that doesn’t mean you read 20 lenses and ‘like’ them all. It means maybe reading 30 or 40. ‘Likes’ should be awarded for quality and not because you want a ‘like’ back.

          • http://cazort.net/ Alex Zorach

Yes…if people like a lens that is low-quality, it harms the site because it boosts that lens’ ranking. Collectively, when low-quality lenses are promoted, it harms everyone on the site. Being selective about what you like helps reward people who are creating high-quality lenses.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/akarki akarki

20 minutes is far too much average for a lens…anyway, 20 likes are so much, unless somebody do this once per week, as i do.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/rodaussie rodaussie

Who is without sin cast the first stone. Squidlikes were a great way to attract traffic from other lensmasters. Even on Squidoo Forum some recommended visit 50 lens a day in a way to get more points and attract traffic even if the word squidlike or like were never included just visit the lenses don’t tell who you are and you would get nothing back… anyway… since I arrive on Squidoo a few things are changing and I think it is getting better… no more votation for the book and food quests, and now squidlike control, and probably soon blessing controls will be put in place. Let’s play the game on the new rules. Everything that comes to make this community better is welcome. Well Done. At least this reduction on clicks will give a bit of a rest to my fingers…

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Cinnamonbite Cinnamonbite

What does traffic from other lensmasters get you? Unless they’re buying from you, what’s the point? Aren’t click outs to other lenses worth nothing as well?

      • http://constructivethinker.blogspot.com/ Jay- Jamar

        lol

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/flowergardener flowergardener

Oh THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU!!!!! Could I please ask a favor of HQ? Will HQ please review angel blessings too? I do believe there are a large amount of angels that go back to a lens each time the blessing wears off…………and blesses it again!

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/terrapin719 terrapin719

If I bless a lens as a Squid-angel and I revisit later on, even months down the road (if it pops up as LOTD or a feature on the homepage or if I see someone say they updated a lens to include something new), then the blessing box is already lit up and can’t be reblessed. If an angel has the ability to rebless lenses, that sounds like a technical glitch.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/flowergardener flowergardener

Hummm, that’s news to me, because unlike many I have never been an angel. A few have posted on the old forum that they COULD re-bless lenses.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Titia Titia

Yes, I’ve read that too and I thought it was strange, just as it is very strange that Angels can bless their own lenses. Doesn’t sound right to me. In any case, I refuse to do that.

          • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/vallain vallain

I certainly don’t feel right about blessing my own lens. I’m guessing the software isn’t set up to handle that, so they have to trust to our good judgement and sense of fairness not to bless ourselves.

          • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/darciefrench darciefrench

I have been able to re-bless lenses and I think that’s fine since blessings do wear off, so long as one isn’t routinely “exchanging” blessings with other squid angels

          • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/heytoto heytoto

Their software is set up to keep you from liking your own lenses–doesn’t seem as if it would be that different to block you from blessing your own lenses.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/KathyMcGraw KathyMcGraw

you can rebless…and yes, it was written in the old forum how someone went back and reblesses the same lenses.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Serenia Serenia

I dont think its a glitch – I have made a note of all lenses I blessed and 3 months later I can re-bless them if I choose. When the angel blessings trophy came out in October 2010, I wondered how one angel was able to get the 500 (or is it 1000?) blessings trophy so fast – she had to be re-blessing the lenses every 3 months.

I agree that blessings need tpo be done the same way as Likes – once only per lens and make them permanent.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/flowergardener flowergardener

Thank you for verifying that Serenia!

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Evelyn_Saenz Evelyn_Saenz

When I first became an angel we used to only be able to bless once. Now the blessings wear off and we are able to bless again.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/terrapin719 terrapin719

I had no idea that blessings faded away like that, I thought we were still only able to bless once. Interesting (I also didn’t notice that the button was available for clicking on our own lenses, I guess because I never looked for it when looking at mine.)

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/RockinPicks RockinPicks

One blessing, on a lens. That’s all that is allowed. It’s not even up to us. The green light goes off. This is good because it shows me the lenses I have gotten to. I doubt there are many Angels abusing the system. It’s too much fun having that and we wouldn’t want to get it taken away.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/vallain vallain

If I visit a lens and it is very, very good, I want to give it a blessing. I may not remember if I’ve blessed it before. If the blessing has worn off and the thumb’s up blessing icon is not green, I have no way of knowing that I gave it a blessing 2 years ago.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/flowergardener flowergardener

Bonnie, you may want to view the post in the forum. Some are all ‘for’ limiting the amount of blessings.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Ladymermaid Ladymermaid

I re-bless lenses. Many truly good long term articles lose ranking over
time and fall deep into the ranks while other articles that are able to
receive turbo boosts and angel blessings push them further down. A great lens that was written in 2007 or 2008 can wind up at the bottom if it were not able to be blessed again after a suitable waiting period. It is not as though they are being re-blessed shortly after the first blessing was given.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/tvyps tvyps

        Ditto!

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/patgoltz patgoltz

I don’t THINK I exceed that number, but it still worries me, if you know what I mean. I like to squidlike. However, since I rarely read more than a handful of lenses each day, and I won’t squidlike a lens unless I’ve read it, looks like no problem. I can see what abuse it is intended to curb. I have had a couple of incidents where people squidliked nearly all my lenses in short order. Obviously, that means nothing but an attempt to collect points.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/tokyonights7 tokyonights7

Love this change. I’ll use up my 20 squidlikes on this very post. :-)

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/StephenJParkin StephenJParkin

This is more than reasonable and is I presume being imposed due to some people indulging in liking clubs with each other to try to boost their lenses. This is of course a Squid don’t as whilst we may return the favour on one or two outstanding lenses there is no requirement to do even that.

It is a shame that people do not understand how netiquette or should it be Squidiquette should be applied. I think you at HQ have made the rules pretty clear if people would only read and implement your scribes.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/bilten bilten

What is point in that new limitation is worst and worst everday more that site

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Titia Titia

Not at all, 20 likes a day, means reading 20 lenses a day and that is more than enough. Liking is not about clicking that button without reading.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/RuralFloridaLiving RuralFloridaLiving

Sorry, but I can’t say I like this new policy. Its easy to understand that you don’t want automated programs liking lenses but 20 in 24 hours doesn’t allow for what we need to do to keep people visiting our work. I have days I can devote to reading lenses and days that I don’t. When I can dedicate the time to visit other lensmasters’ work, I want the ability to visit as many sites and like as many sites and I wish.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Ruthi Ruthi

And I somewhat agree with you. I may visit 100 lenses today as I am not in “creative” mode as I am packing up my house for relocation, so in between boxes and needing a break I visit the work of friends. So now if I’ve already used up my 20 for the day I guess I need to make a note to revisit tomorrow to Squidlike the lens? Personally, if Squidliking is to be regulated by numbers then I feel it should just be done away with if it creates such a problem. Yes, I do understand, somewhat, that we’re working on ridding Squidoo from “cheaters” of sorts, but really it is the faithful honest hard-working lensmasters who are suffering through all the changes, not the rule-breakers.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Titia Titia

The bad always make the good suffer, nothing new in that. So you just have to look closer to whom you give your likings to.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Ramkitten Ramkitten

Yep, and it’s really more about the individual lens, not the individual who made the lens. I know lots of people go around liking the lenses of the PEOPLE they like, but it’s really good to branch out and get to know new people from their good work on Squidoo.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/tvyps tvyps

I agree Ruthi. It takes a while for me to get back to things sometimes.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/lakeerieartists lakeerieartists

While it is nice to get people from Squidoo to visit your work, it is much more important to drive traffic from outside Squidoo. This does not take likes, but other types of online promotion.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/keithppc keithppc

The problem is, as I understand it, if your lens doesn’t get 20 likes it won’t show up in the Squidoo search results. That’s why people want likes.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Christene Christene

No, you don’t need 20 likes to show up in search results.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/tvyps tvyps

I agree…however, some rely on Squidoo traffic alone. A lot of the upper lensmasters use only Squidoo traffic and hope that their keywords get them on Google. I have tried keywords & backlinks and it is difficult. One that you think may do well, doesn’t and vice versa.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/flowergardener flowergardener

That’s what this limit will stop. If one is relying on squidoo traffic alone, one is essentially ‘cheating the system’. That squidoo traffic is not going to click on your links, and it is not going to buy anything from your links. Therefore….that lens is NOT bringing ANY revenue to the shared pot we have for lens rank royalties. Much better to write for the public that is OUTSIDE of squidoo.

          • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/tvyps tvyps

I think you are mistaken. Squidoo is a community and the community does drive some of the revenue. Visits to your lens raises the ranking. Ask around. I have been here a long time and know a lot of the top lensmasters are not relying on backlinks or tons of people coming from the outside. The more lenses, the less available keywords to work with. Those keywords are what drives the lens to the top of the search engines. Do you look at your pie charts? The majority of the traffic comes from the inside. Its ok though, everyone will be in the same situation and will make the likes more powerful.

          • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/flowergardener flowergardener

tvyps…I’m not mistaken, and I stand by what I posted, and I’ve also been here a very long time. You’ve been runnin’ with the wrong crowd buddy.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Christene Christene

It shouldn’t take likes to get people to visit you. You don’t want lensmasters anyway, they don’t buy. We want search engine traffic, which has nothing to do with likes.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/terrapin719 terrapin719

I think that’s why so many people want to do with away the Squidlikes as part of the Squidoo algorithm ~ as much as we enjoy each other’s company we’re not always “real visitors” coming to shop or learn about the lens topic.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/AlleyCatLane AlleyCatLane

Sounds good to me! I am lucky if I get around to liking near that amount each day.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Photahsiamirabel Photahsiamirabel

    Wonderful! :D

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/VickiSims VickiSims

I think this is a great idea to try to make sure likes are not given out indiscriminately and to curb anyone who has less than pure motives for bestowing them.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/BeyondRoses BeyondRoses

More great news today! And I second the request, to review the angel reblessing of lenses.

        not true….

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Evelyn_Saenz Evelyn_Saenz

That is no longer true. The Blessing now wear off after a time.

  • ismeedee

20 Likes is a heck of a lot if you actually read people’s lenses, which everyone should do!! I think it’s fair!

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Mission1 Mission1

Might be an idea to set a timer so that you can’t actually squidlike a page until you have spent sufficient time on it to read the content.

      • http://constructivethinker.blogspot.com/ Jay- Jamar

        like

      • seemlychris

It’s completely possible for this functionality to be flawed though – all it takes is for someone to open multiple lenses in multiple browser tabs, thus giving a faux “time on page” statistic. A ‘like’ quantity limit is much more fool-proof.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Debbie_Brown Debbie_Brown

Yes, that’s true I used to read them all and it took me along time to finish each one. That’s why I only click on the ones I like then just move on. Also, being a beginner I like reading and learning how to do the lens. So please be fair and try to read the lens of others though it will not be as presentable and as perfect as the other lens.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/RockinPicks RockinPicks

I have a question. What if there is two people in the same house who write for Squidoo. I just finished talking my daughter into Squidoo. She is young so I am not too concerned, but she is very into crafting. Are we sharing the 20 likes? Can’t neighbors have the same ISP.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/bdkz bdkz

It is 20 SquidLikes per IP address so if you share the same IP it’s 20 together.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/nicksanders nicksanders

Ah, so the data says that people liking lenses are using the same IP then. What if they use proxy IPs from today? Do they get 20 on each proxy IP?

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/nicksanders nicksanders

      Exactly my point above.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/ArawynWalays ArawynWalays

Will the “Quests” state this policy when the “Quest” is about liking a lens of a stated topic?

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/ElleDeeEsse ElleDeeEsse

It already does. It say like “A” lens. Not like as many lenses as you like!

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/nicksanders nicksanders

Shouldn’t this be on a per account and not on a per IP basis? Can’t these individuals just go on liking sprees with proxies or VPNs? Or am I missing something?

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/terrapin719 terrapin719

That’s a fair point ~ the abusers will still find a way to abuse. Although I suppose if they’re really trying hard to be abusive they would just manage multiple accounts if it were monitored by account.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/nicksanders nicksanders

Totally agree, but I would think it’s much easier to click a button and change your IP address than sign out of one account and into another.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Titia Titia

How many accounts do you think the gameplayers have.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/flowergardener flowergardener

Titia, hopefully HQ has a good idea (average number) of how many new accounts are made weekly or monthly. If the gameplayers try to go that route, it ‘should’ set off a warning to HQ….then hopefully they’ll limit how many ‘likes’ new accounts can do.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/flowergardener flowergardener

I think this first step in limiting the liking spree’s and ‘friend liking’ groups will deeply cut. It will also make it much easier to ‘see’ those that persist in their +1000 likes a month using proxies, vpns, or purchases…they’ll stand out like a sore thumb….. and then HQ can decide what to do with them.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/keithppc keithppc

      No. You’re not missing anything.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Greekgeek Greekgeek

What you’re missing is the fact that unfortunately, some unscrupulous individuals use multiple accounts to spread Squidlikes. It takes no tech savvy whatsoever to do that, whereas what you’re talking about is beyond a lot of the worst offenders of serial liking and like exchanges.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/greenspirit greenspirit

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/hotsquid hotsquid

That is a very good idea to prevent people from blindly liking lens to get to higher levels. I always read the lens I’m interested and decide if I like it or not. 20 lens/day is a lot for me to read other than spending time on making my own lenses.

I love Squidoo, I’ve said it and wrote it many times. But in the past few weeks I’ve seen more and more complaining here, and Squidoo tightening it’s belt. What I fear is that Squidoo HQ is getting an “elitist” attitude.

Squidoo is number 1 for a reason. They got here on the backs of thousands of writers and because their platform was fun and unique. Now that Squidoo is tops… they seek to define what it is to “be the best,” forgetting what it is that got them here. I’m all for change, and doing the best we can, but the slope is indeed quite slippery. Empires, champions, leaders, corporate giants… they all falter when they stray from what made them. If there are problem “spammers” or leaches on Squidoo, deal with “them.” Don’t ruin it for everyone else. You have access to WHO is liking and participating in “like swapping.” I can just see Facbook limiting Likes…. this is simple silliness. Sorry if that offends, but it needs said.

One large article directory (name withheld) used to be a very highly regarded writing platform (and still is by many). But in terms of Alexa ratings and Google PR its no longer even in the top 15. There’s a lesson to be learned in this and other similar examples. This new limitation doesn’t affect me personally, but it seems like a bad direction. I hope this isn’t perceived as an attack but a concerned Squid venting.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/dingbat1932 dingbat1932

I quite agree with you, what Squidoo need to think about is that this will not stop spammers anyway. They will flourish while every one else will lose interest because the fun has gone out of it. On the road to doom I suspect.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/LiliLove LiliLove

Sounds good, because I get likes sometimes from one lensmastmaster all just a few seconds apart and know that whoever just liked it hardly looked at page and are just trying to get a squid like in return or just get a bunch of points. I enjoy getting the likes but I would be a whole lot happier and they would be more appreciated by me if I got them because that person actually read and enjoyed my lens.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/KathyT KathyT

I can understand this – even though some days I do go on liking sprees when I have time just because I love to encourage people to continue (but I also interact w/ comments, etc).

Kind of thinking out loud here: One thing I think this is good for is our overall standing in the online community at large. We need to remember that we (Squids) are not an insular community – as much as it can sometimes feel that way when we “see” and communicate with our fellow Squids in our comments, etc.

When members of the rest of the world find us (which we ultimately hope they do), we want THEIR experience to be a very positive one.

We want them to find us through their searches, enjoy their time on our pages, and – of course for many, if not most of us – buy the stuff we’re offering or support the causes we’re promoting.

The more “automated” or non-personal interaction becomes in any type of platform (whether it’s Squidoo, Twitter, Facebook, or whatever), the less “real” it becomes – and then we’re more-or-less “demoted” in a sense, to mere automatons without the personality that this quirky and cool platform should be.

I love Squidoo, and foresee it becoming a real source of income for me in the not-so-distant future – and so, I thank the Squid-powers-that-be for doing what they must in order to protect this potential.

Ok. Wow. I’ve never put so much of my opinion into any comment like this before. Dang. Could’ve almost made an entire lens! :)

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/empathzone empathzone

    I don´t think I ever liked 20 lenses in a day…
The idea is good, cut down the “serial likers”.
People giving professionals services can bypass this using multiple IP proxies, but it will do some damage.
Someone added the need of a delay. it could work, something as short as 10 seconds will not make any difference for people, but will be a problem for automation systems.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Evelyn_Saenz Evelyn_Saenz

A good lens can not possibly be read in 10 seconds. I would say 15 minutes would be quite reasonable. Possibly longer.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/poddys poddys

The BIG problem is that some people have been Liking lenses without reading them, in the hope of getting return visits and Likes to their lenses.

If you check the activity on your dashboard and see that someone has Liked 20 lenses in under 5 minutes, you know they haven’t read a single one of them.

I have also seen some accounts where their stats are showing they have Liked thousands of lenses and yet their account has only been open several weeks. The number of Likes is humanly impossible, even if you were to keep it up 24/7, so you know they have been using an automated process.

It’s great to see this cheating put to an end. Of course they will soon find other ways to cheat, but as long as HQ respond to block them, or to cancel their accounts, it’s good for everyone.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/jennysue19 jennysue19

Where do you see someone else’s Squidlikes? Maybe I am being blind but I can’t even see my own! I did ask on the forum a day or two ago that HQ did a trawl of lensmasters with no featured lenses or only one or two that they bought, but that isn’t part of the cleanup – yet. It’s nice to see that SOMETHING is being done.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/pkmcr pkmcr

I too sincerely hope that the next step will be to limit the number of
blessings that can be given per day to really elevate those to the value
they deserve. I would think no more than 5 per day and would be happy
with them being limited to 1 per day – so that when that Angel blessed
your lens it REALLY meant something as it does when some of the Angels
    bless my lenses now.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/vallain vallain

I don’t mind allowing angels to go on a spree of blessings if they feel like hunting down good lenses and rewarding them. I do mind that angel wings are given willy-nilly to new squids without telling them what to look for or without them having enough experience to recognize problems on a lens.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/MichelleElynHogan MichelleElynHogan

You must realize that as Squidoo grows, the number of Angels grows as well. Granted, most everything else should grow at the same rate but only the Staff can know this statistic.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/baseballchris46 baseballchris46

I personally like to bless new lenses that I think are off to a great start and give them a squid giant like. I will also leave a comment about things that I feel should be changed to improve the lens. I like to motivate them and help the lens a little at the beginning.

I don’t like that idea because there are quests available to squidangels. Although I understand why you say that.

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/RockinPicks RockinPicks

        Ace,
Yes there are quests for Angels but there are quests for Rockets too. In fact the best quests are Rocket Quests. Angel Quests only happen a few times a year. It’s not like we get anything big or weekly. There is a weekly quest for Giants but you know what… we earned it and it’s very competitive. We are going up against some of the best writers on here for big stakes so the lenses produced are going to be great lenses which only increases Squidoo’s value as a whole.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/EMangl EMangl

better to kick out angels who violate the tos, but that’s not going to happen, i guess

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/happynutritionist happynutritionist

The likes I don’t mind, my only concern about blessings is that I focus a day ever week or two on them…give some random at times between…but putting a limit of only 5 per day would really limit me…unless I change my “routine”, which I would if I absolutely had to:-)

      • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/KimGiancaterino KimGiancaterino

I would prefer weekly limits, as opposed to daily limits. I often play catch up on weekends.

        • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/---Chazz —Chazz

I agree. The time I get to spend on Squidoo depends on how busy I am with my day job. When I’m really busy I sometimes get to check in with Squidoo for 10 or 15 minutes a day. When things are slow I also play catch-up and devote more time to reading lenses and maybe even making a new one. I do agree with limits and really would like to see them for blessings too – but since I often don’t get on every day I can see where weekly limits make sense.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Denmarkguy Denmarkguy

    Many, many, MANY thumbs up!

I hope “those who read 100s of lenses per day” grasp the import of giving their 20 likes to something that is quality content and worthy of getting liked… not just to “the first 20 they can click on.”

    ~Peter

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/terrapin719 terrapin719

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/tembrooke tembrooke

Ultimately, I think this is a good policy and will help — although I would add the same restriction to lensmaster accounts to prevent someone giving likes from multiple locations daily (home, work, coffee shop, lunch spot, etc).

There have been occasions when I gave more than 20 likes in a day; a couple of weeks ago when my Dad had surgery, I spent hours in the hospital room just visiting lenses to keep myself busy. But that’s an unusual case and I wouldn’t expect Squidoo to make too-lax rules just to accommodate rare situations. I’m hopeful that this new rule will really improve the community and help to keep things fair.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/aj2008 aj2008

Works for me. I’ve been on Squidoo for 110 days. In that time I’ve liked 420 lenses. I know that exact number because, in its inimitable fashion, Squidoo honored me with 10 points for liking lens #420 earlier today. That’s an average of 3.818182 likes per day. (I’m not sure who got the partial likes each day; if it was one of yours, I’m sorry, it was unintentional.) I don’t like every lens I look at. If I don’t care for the content or layout, I pass. None of us can successfully be all things to all people.

Personally, I think it would be better to do away with Squidliking altogether rather than implement limitations in amount of Squidlikes per day. And, here again, it is the honest lensmasters who are suffering consequences of the actions of rulebreakers.
This really reminds me of how I feel about gun control here in the US… New laws do not stop the criminals! Enforce current laws and problems would be better solved.

One of the fun things on Squidoo is to read and like lenses, earn
monster trophies, make comments and participate in the fun of things.
Taking this away seems counter productive to me, what’s next for people
looking to get to level 80 and beyond? Are you stopping points for
comments, quizzes, polls and quests next? No point in having Sqidlike
monster trophies any more because people that haven’t got them already
now have no chance. Bad move in my opinion. Goes against the whole
idea of what Squidoo stood for – freedom. If you need to stop the
spammers then have the community do the reporting on it rather than
    squidoo being big brother.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/aj2008 aj2008

This move is nothing to do with Spamming but everything to do with Squidoo members gaming. And once you get to level 80 it is nigh on impossible to get to level 81 unless you go on serial liking sprees for weeks/months on end. I have been on Level 80 for around a year now, have amassed over 294,000 points (without trying) and still have over 704,000 (yes, that is seven hundred and four thousand) points to go to get to level 81.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea, but it’s still addressing the symptom and not the disease. Lens ranking is the disease/problem here; make that algorithm less reliant on internal factors and there’ll be no need to patch things up piecemeal like this.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/StephenC StephenC

I guess I’ll be one of the few to not “like” this. But not for the many reasons here. Why not limit all activity? I could start 1,000 lenses in a very short time, rack up the points. And never finish or publish one. Is there a limit to the number of lenses you can create in one day? How about quizzes? Each quiz is worth more than twice what a squidlike is worth. Some people have filled a lens with a bogus 100 quizzes! Take all 100 mindlessly, and boom. A lot of points. How about polls? Some people do the same with polls. Why not limit the number of polls you can take and put on a lens? But then, one could go on a FB liking tangent…I’ve seen lenses, highly ranked, that brag about how you can take all the polls or quizzes here, and earn a quick badge. And most of the questions are just silly to boot.

    Yes, I love liking lenses!

A better idea, would be to limit the number of ALL activity, from taking polls, to creating lenses by SQUID LEVEL. Each level, you unlock more activity.

If you are not going to limit poll, quizzes, FB likes, etc., then you should just get rid of squid liking altogether.

I just visited a lens from a high ranking squid who bragged about how many polls and quizzes they have that just rocketed them to the top. That is abuse as well.

You should get rid of one question quizzes. All my quizzes are 10 questions. You must take all 10 questions to get the points.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/PaulOnBooks PaulOnBooks

Some good points there, but the fact that someone plays the points game to achieve high level doesn’t mean he’s getting revenue from lensrank (probably) and sales (almost certainly).

    • http://gilhildebrand.com/ Gil Hildebrand

Yes there is already a limit to the number of lenses you can create per IP address per day.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Greekgeek Greekgeek

Points don’t matter. They don’t have real world consequences. Gaming to get likes matters, because it takes away income from lenses that would otherwise rank better because they’re attracting visitors, driving sales, or otherwise providing something useful, interesting or funny to readers.
(I personally think the whole points and levels thing is a waste of time, so in that I agree with you, but I don’t care as long as someone else’s game playing isn’t taking money away from the lenses that actually bring readers to Squidoo, drive sales or provide something useful to somebody.)

Let’s hope that it puts the end to people being able to buy likes. You might also consider reviewing the capture images. The same ones come up again and again, and there are plenty of on-line services that will solve them for about 1 cent each.

On my websites I have put a “maths capture” where they have to solve a simple mathematical problem. so far it seems to be working.

There are also a couple of easy workarounds that I can think of for the dedicated cheat, but I won’t tell you what they are here, in case they are reading this.

Will angels get more time for their quests? Sometimes it’s hard to find a lens to bless and takes more than 20 visits. This will cut down on blessings, but it will stop fly by’s. It will also change the value of a lens won’t it since “likes” are entered into worth? Just makes likes and LotD more precious and appreciated.

Or maybe there will be some automatic system that limits the 20 likes?

20 seems like a lot; so, I’m assuming some people were doing way more, meaning they were “Like” ing without actually reading. Maybe put the “Like” button at the bottom of the page, not at the top?

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/peterduck peterduck

This is a step in the right direction and thank you HQ for taking it. However, it concerns me that it doesn’t prevent people going on FB and Twitter and retweeting their articles hundreds of times which apparently goes on. I guess HQ have to start somewhere but I hope they take on board the valid points people make here about organised cheats using proxies to change their IP addresses. This new measure is more likely to stop the amateurs who form a group; and like their mates lenses. I don’t see it stopping organised cheats who sell squid likes as a business. HQ needs to work out who these are from the traffic and close down those accounts and keep vigilant against more signing on. Not trying to be negative here, just worried about the future of Squidoo which I was enjoying being part of until all this distressing and, to a newbie like me, shocking information came out in the last few days.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/keithppc keithppc

How about not showing the “like” button until the person reading has “scrolled” to the bottom of the page, like some of the “Terms of Service” on some websites. You could also withhold adding a “like” to an account until a comment has been made and approved. Just a suggestion :-)

    Hurray!

I am a speed reader. I can read a lot of lenses in a day. However, I don’t think I’ve ever liked more than twenty in a day because maybe only one in ten lenses is worth liking, by my standards. It is my hope that the changes on Squidoo will soon make it easier for me to find lenses to like. Giving the frowny face to lenses with very little content, stopping the sale of spun junk content, and cracking down on spun garbage will certainly help.

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Kylyssa Kylyssa

I’m a speed reader and on some days, I do read a lot of Squidoo lenses. While I could very easily read twenty lenses, I find maybe one in ten to be likeable because I only like things I actually like. If I’m not yelling, “Hey, come here and check this out!” to my roommate it doesn’t get a like. I doubt I’ve ever given out more than twenty likes in a day even when I was really sick and just read lenses all day.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/squidoopets squidoopets

    I’m wondering about those using
multiple ip’s – they will get around the limit. Also, I have a question about the checking of lenses for spun content, will the scanners catch content spun from prior lenses? ie – another lensmaster was mentioning they had temporary success with a lens when it was honored with LOTD, but then a more popular in the squidoo community lensmaster made a similar lens and now the second lens outranks the first. Many thanks for listening – Darcie French

    • http://gilhildebrand.com/ Gil Hildebrand

20 per day per IP address or account.

Our spun content filter will not detect a lens unless the content on it is spun. If it’s original, interesting content written by a human then it will be fine regardless of whether other lenses have copied it.

20 likes a day should be plenty – I know it’s plenty for me! More than enough to get the job done, because most days I don’t like even that many.

As a SquidAngel, I didn’t even KNOW that blessings “wore off”. I always assumed that once I blessed a lens it stayed blessed (by me) forever.

I don’t give out lots and lots of blessings, but I have on occasion set aside a day to browse around Squidoo in search of great lenses deserving blessings. Even then, I probably never blessed more than 5 or 6 lenses on that sort of day. Liked, maybe, but not blessed.

Oh, dear. I am not so happy about this but my opinion was not asked. I really don’t see the purpose of these limits. The idea of limiting blessings is being tossed around too; and I am really opposed to that. Why? Because sometimes I just run across a string of really excellent lenses – like yesterday. I think for some reason the particular niche I was in just lead itself to great lenses: well-researched, heartfelt and usually personal content, great public domain or personal photos and tasteful reviews. If my angel blessings had been limited I would have written the urls down and come back to them. Well, it looks like either my opinion is not in the majority or those who disagree are afraid to come up against HQ- but that is okay. I don’t mind being in the minority. :) PS – as far as blessing a lens again, I think you cannot do that.

Good policy. The only “con” of this for me is that I generally go back and review lenses of all of the kind people who have visited me. I don’t always “like” all of them but feel that I need to give them positive feedback and a “like” if they are doing things right. This encourages new people or people that need help. I don’t always have time to do this on the same day. I took a day or so a week to go backwards and do this. I can live with it; will this help with some of the rankings of legit lensmasters….or figure into lensranking? However, I guess that “likes” on my lenses will also decrease due to the limited number of likes that are being given. There are many more than 20 lenses on the front page alone.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/bloomingrose bloomingrose

Yesterday was my day off and I sat around and read a lot of lenses – blessed a good deal of them too because they were great lenses. I thought that was the idea of Squidoo: keep it friendly and supportive. I wonder if people call would think of me as a “serial liker” (whatever that horrible creature is) or a robot. I comment on almost all of them by the way, and I try to make it a worthwhile content related comment. Honestly, I am probably just spending way to much time on Squidoo – and visiting other people’s lenses to be supportive.

I never realized this was an issue, or that people had such strong stances. I know I’ll have to adjust my schedule somewhat, as Monday night has been my ”squidoo night” where I set aside a few hours to scroll through the lenses of people who have visited mine or any that catch my attention. I’m sure that leads to more than 20 likes each Monday. I may end up visiting fewer each week because the other nights are full, unfortunately.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/laserays laserays

Certainly! This idea will help in filtering the good and worthy lens from junks. But Squidoo should built some mechanism to gauge and estimate certain time spend by the users then only their liking should be taken into consideration.

good idea. It always seemed strange to be that certain profiles show 1000s of ranked lenses. Its a ploy to go for as much reciprocation as possible. By contrast, in one year vortrek.grafix has ranked just under 300. If one evaluates lenses seriously, clicks links, make comments, etc, then that takes time. Even more time is consumed if one figures perhaps half the lenses one visits are not even ranked becuase they are of different interests, or of marginal to poor quality.

    Sounds fair to me

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/SusanRDavis SusanRDavis

This new change got me thinking enough to read all the comments. Lots of them. I have mixed feelings on this one. First of all, making it daily. Many of us – me included – do my general “visiting” other lenses on a time-available basis, often taking a few hours on one day to go looking for great lenses to like and bless. However, I’m also a speed reader and can read a lot of lenses in 4 hours. Some I skim for information, knowing up front that it’s not likely to be like-able or bless-worthy yet. Others I can easily spend 20 minutes on. I guess I can switch to comments to show support. What I think makes more sense given how I and many others visit lenses would be a weekly limit instead of a daily one. Another option I saw and like was setting a time-on-page before being allowed to like it.

The other issue that comes to mind is the lensrank issue. If Likes are still a big part of the lensrank determination, then older lenses that have a zillion likes under the old policy may be forever on top due to the fact that newer lenses will never be able to collect those kinds of likes. And if likes are still factored heavily into lensranks, there won’t be anywhere near as many of them going around, even for really great lenses. Which means less-aged lenses have little earning power, even if they are visited a lot, because the lack of likes may negatively impact overall lensrank. If lensrank is factored downward so that newer great lenses can earn better community placement, then the ad pool share will maintain its allure as a small earning tool for charity lenses and non-commercial lenses.

I agree with having it make people more choosy. After a few months of lots of liking from me, used as a general thumbs up or encouragement, I have become more careful with my likes. For that reason, I like the limits. I just think weekly makes more sense than daily. It will make everyone become more choosy and also more aware of how to vote for a truly valuable lens and not just trading a like with every visitor who comes by.

But I also see it penalizing newer lensmasters who are still struggling to write the best possible content. We can hardly leave comments that spell out all of the issues in a lens, so what are we left to comment on in a positive way that still comments in a detailed and useful way? And with no comments or likelihood of likes, how does someone really improve their lens, or have the motivation to do so? I’m mainly thinking of this from an encouragement standpoint. How do we best encourage people in a way that gives them an incentive to improve?

Not all lenses are written on Squidoo for commercial purposes. But many lenses want to support charities. Usually they do this through lensrank sharing of the ad pool. If there is little or no chance of actually getting the likes needed for lensrank to improve, will they keep writing lenses at all, or even try to improve lenses? Or will they move on to another mediocre one? Points can serve as a kind of incentive and so can lensrank and the small earnings from it. It’s not only about earning points for yourself, either. When a lens receives a Like, its writer gets points, too. Less likes means less “points” encouragement to the writer, too. It would help to emphasize comments as a better “liking” tool in terms of both points and lensrank if you’re going to seriously limit the pool of Likes available.

But then you also will face the issue of someone accepting a ton of wishy-washy comments because that’s the only way they’ll get any improvement in lensrank with no Likes.

I guess what I’m saying is that if Like pools are limited, we need a new way to measure engagement on a lens so that good lenses will gain lensrank and the other means of measuring engagement will increase in “encouragement” point values. Most people need some kind of tangible “happy feeling” to keep investing time and energy into something. Whether that’s dollars from the ad pool, points from interaction, or positive comments, everyone is different. But I’m pretty sure that if we cut back severely on the encouragement factor, we’ll lose out as a community in the long run.

My overall thought here is that if we have enough other means of encouragement and mentoring, the likes are not a big part of the equation. But if they are still factored heavily into lensrank, and newer folks can never attain even a decent Tier 3 lens, what will keep them on Squidoo, investing their time here instead of elsewhere? How many good people will we lose to other platforms simply because they don’t have enough community interaction to keep them engaged and encouraged to contribute more good content? Not every lens is going to be a star. It just won’t happen. But there are plenty of “pretty good” lenses out there with a good idea or reasonably good content that could be made even better if a lensmaster is encouraged enough and engaged enough to keep putting work into it.

As Squidoo has pushed so hard to say “publish it now and then improve it as you go,” I think it behooves the community to have some way to encourage lensmasters to improve those “just okay but could be much better yet” lenses.

Nice, I think this is definitely a step in the right direction. Personally I’d like to see a downvote option added to additionally help weed out questionable lenses, but this should help stop those annoying serial likers, hate seeing on my activity wall that someone like 20 of my lenses in less than a minute (happens often enough). Everyone’s getting excited and saying how great this is, and yes I can see the benefits, and yes, current practices should be regulated. It’s good…………..

    BUT…… !!!!!!!!!

I’m assuming that Squidoos ranking algorithim is partly based on the number of Squid-likes a lens has gets, right ? (otherwise you wouldn’t be doing this).

So, if we are starting to build lenses today, It stands to reason that there will be less ‘liking’ going on all-round.

THEREFORE, we have less of a chance of catching up with those people who have already racked up 500+ squid-likes in the past (Has anyone thought about this ?????).

It is a good leveller, but I fear the advantage for Squidoos internal ranking has just massively swung to the people that already have lenses, with 100′s of likes.

Having said that, maybe people will just concentrate on building quality lenses for ‘real traffic’ with traditional SEO now (which benefits us and Squidoo) and forget about all the internal rankings ?

    • http://gilhildebrand.com/ Gil Hildebrand

The impact of Likes, as with most lensrank factors, only includes Likes from the past 2 weeks.

Probably when I first joined and was going on my lens learning romp, I could have. I toast my coffee to you all! I’m not kidding when I say that I’m truly happy.

Everyone already stated the bestest reason for this, but the other is that the limit will put the value back into the “like” and give us more to go on in assessing the value of our work. Whoooot!

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/ManfromModesto ManfromModesto

It makes sense in that it will more likely separate out really great content. But, most people do not visit that many lenses. And, older lenses now have a great advantage over newer ones.

Then again, people may choose to use their likes each day because they will be lost. Who knows?

    • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Kylyssa Kylyssa

The “bump” from a “like” is temporary so old lenses won’t have any advantage over newer ones once the old “likes” have worn off.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/StrongMay StrongMay

There are times when I can spend hours on Squidoo going from lens to lens and reading them. This is not all the time, and certainly every day. But I pass through enough lenses to get that “+5 points for visiting 5 lenses in a row” and “+10 point for visiting ten lenses in a row” a few times in one sitting. On such sprees limiting the squidlikes can be hard – who knows how many awesome lenses I come across.
I probably won’t run out of squidlikes often, but ouch! How annoying when I do?!

While you could visit more than 20 lenses in a day if you were on a visiting blitz, I think 20 is a fair number, and will hopefully put an end to the use of automated processes for doing this. An excellent move in my opinion.

Next I would like to see a similar limit on the number of lenses that you can re-publish in a day, since legitimate edits should not exceed something like 20 (unless there are exceptional circumstances, like module changes which require you to do a lot of editing).

Think about the poor families working their fingers to the bone to produce good articles to earn a few pennies to supplement their income. Maybe there are two parents and two older children all trying to help with this, all with their own accounts. Unfortnately they are all on separate computers but ALL have the same IP address. WOW each one can like 5 lenses, now that’s not good.

However the spammer can change his IP address by the click of a button so their lenses will shoot to the top and earn more money and cause more confusion for Squidoo. We wil end up with all the spam lenses near the top of the tree, just waht Squidoo don’t want. Have you ever tried to track a spammer or a hacker down? Do they ever use their own IP addresses? Bad move in my opinion.

Hi I truly enjoy reading other people lens, and finding out what they have to say. It take a while to read, take polls or quizzes, and leave comments. I think the only time that I have ever liked 20 lens was a few months back when we had a quest to like and bless lens, I almost missed the deadline because it took me so long to read and comments on all the lens. For me 20 is plenty, if I read and like 6 or 7 a day, it’s a good day for me.

I like squidliking multiple lenses which cover a topic I am happy to see covered here. For instance, the other day I went and researched raised bed herb gardening and found dozens of lenses – I liked them all! Why? It supports the lensmakers! I then bookmark them in my browser to come back later and read in detail. What harm is there in that? Liking many lenses at one time is usually due to the limited time I have to enjoy squidoo – I can’t spend eight hours a day carefully reading one lens after another.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/A-Redneck A-Redneck

I think that putting a limit on likes might actually create a greater community spirit. Perhaps more lensmasters will now to take the extra few moments to leave a thoughtful comment on lenses. Sounds fine to me. I don’t believe I have ever come close to those numbers anyway. Who has the time???

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/CuriousBoy CuriousBoy

    It’s fair and I fully agree, but…
    there is a tech issue:

What about two or more computers connected via the same router sharing the same IP assigned by, of course, the same ISP?

Also, that would not defeat the use of proxies, restarting the router to get a new dynamic IP, not to mention that some friends or even paid-for services will click a “like” from different IPs…

That said, while a cookie could be a better approach to track external visitors, as to Squidoo members the best way should be to identify the account holder.
This could be easily implemented considering that you are already tracking those clicks to assign points.

    Just my 2 cents…

    • http://gilhildebrand.com/ Gil Hildebrand

You’re right that there’s no perfect solution. And a cookie can be deleted (or ignored) even easier than switching an internet connection. We have to draw the line somewhere though.

If anything 20′s still too many. If the idea of Squidliking is really to mean something then I think it would be better to do just 10 a day, and really THINK about which ones you like. I intend to make that my policy and if certain lenses get two visits from me before I decide to Squidlike, well lucky them (although I think it only counts unique ones).

There really are some perks to being new. This is beginning to take on the flavor of Hubpages which isn’t totally bad. They are getting pretty restrictive over there. I left because the bickering got so bad. There are still some very good hubs though and I still read them. I rarely write any more and my stats are falls exponentially. I truly hope that Squidoo’s changes are for the better. As I said, I am new and I really cannot in good conscience express an opinion, but I don’t want to be paralyzed with fear when I start a new lens. I have another in the works, but am I afraid? Yes, and until all the changes are implemented, I probably won’t write it.

It has bothered me how many are now going through and liking many of my lenses in a few minutes, However, some of us are speed readers and that makes going through a lens a rather quick affair and as an angel I have often spent hours reading and blessing lenses. This has been for no other reason than that 1) I had the hours of time to spend and 2) I enjoy reading lenses by some squids who tackle interesting subjects. But, the ones who cheat spoil things for everyone and new rules have to be put in place to counteract them. My opinion is that people guilty of this abuse should have their liking buttons revoked, removed or they could be penalised in some other way,

Sounds fair to me. Id be more than happy with 20 likes a day (on my lenses anyway!). :)

Thanks for the update on the Squidliking Policy. I enjoyed reading the long list of comments, as well. There’s a lot to take in, and a lot to consider.

Well maybe I went overboard – fell in love w/Squidoo all over again (and I WAS reading the lenses for ideas and enjoyment. It’s a fair rule though.

I don’t really get the sense of this policy. SquidLikes only work inside Squidoo.

You wouldn’t put a limit on Facebook likes or Tweets or Google Plus Ones. Would you?

Sure there are some who SquidLike only to get a SquidLike in return. So what!

I figure if you took your time to find my lens and gave me a SquidLike, the least I could do is take a look at your lenses. Most of the time I find some great lenses because that person sort of introduced themselves to me by way of the SquidLike.

And why would anyone SquidLike a low quality lens anyway?? It’s crap! DUH! By “low-quality” I’m thinking you mean really really low like empty text modules, misspelled words, poor grammar, RSS feeds with no feed, broken links, etc.

My reality is: My computer is so old and moves so slow, I’d never make it through 20 lenses. I don’t think I ever got a pop-up that said “WHOA! You visited 20 lenses in a row! Here’s 1000 extra points”

Whatever! It’s your company. Run it your way. I’m just happy it’s a great publishing platform. SQUIDOO RULES AND ROCKS!!! :)

Can anyone from HQ speak to the rationale behind the change? Were there abuses happening? I am only on Squidoo a few days a week, around my day job, so when I get on here, I blitz many lenses including new ones from both old and new users or lenses related to a subject I find interesting; this will severely limit the number of Squidlikes I’ll be able to leave on good lenses I read because I’m not logging in daily.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Fasttrail Fasttrail

I like this one. We should be reading as many as we want for enjoyment and education but only like those that really mean something to us.

I didn’t know there was a linking ring problem
Though i can see a potential problem with limits (i have no idea if the limits set are practical or not.)
This particular IP address has 6 sometime 8 pc’s connected, any one or all could potentially be Squidoo users, I do encourage them all to join.
now 8 people would only be able to like 3 lens a day each, almost, Since that would be about all I would have time for anyway not sure it would really be a problem

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/Cercis Cercis

Leaves a lot of leeway for those members who actually do read and consider the lens’ content. Thanks for the rule change.

I personally read lenses from top to bottom if I find it interesting and would never hit the like button if I don’t feel like it. Sometimes I just post comments but would not like a lens if it is distasteful to me personally.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/jvcronje jvcronje

A move in the right direction, but I like Mission1′s idea below: Setting a timer. Everybody likes Squidliking and also being squidliked, but I find it embarrassing when I get a lot of Squidlikes when it is clear that the lenses have not been read. Get ten squidlikes within a couple of minutes? Who can read that fast?
Build some kind of timer into the Squidlike function !

24 likes because there are 24 hours in a day. I would like that. But what do I know, I just SquidLiked my first lens ever. Now that I know I can do it though-whatchhouttt!

  • http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/bensen32 bensen32

Personally, 20 is more than enough for a day. I can’t read that fast so by time I read one and find that it is good and move to the next I dont have enough free hours in the day to get through 20 a day. I like this idea.

I think this new “liking” policy is not to my liking. Over-kill is an over-reaction and over-reactions usually are impulsive, not thought out, as I think this move by SQ is.

Why such ridiculous policies lately, just to please a few middle-aged women, who don’t like competition? No wonder people are leaving squidoo and joining new article publishing sites. Whats so controversial about liking someones lense even if you didn’t read it as whole, isn’t the whole idea of helping eachother inspired on this website?
