Hello January!

Screen Shot 2014-01-01 at 9.15.11 AMWelcome January and Happy New Year, Squidoo! Have your resolutions ready? Better yet, have you set writing goals for the new year? While resolutions tend to fall by the wayside, well thought-out, actionable plans can help you reach your goals in a hurry.

The SquidTeam has plans for the new year that we know you’re going to love. Look for some awesome lensmaking tips plus some special projects (like this one) to get your creative juices flowing and your lens list growing. We’ll continue to have quests for participants in our Squidoo Clubs and you can look forward to increased activity involving Squidoo’s niche-market magazines, too.

As the new year gets underway, remember to include time in your plan to maintain and refresh your lenses on a regular basis. Reset countdown modules and dump any old, dead links. Add polls or other interactive modules to engage your readers. Re-read lenses all the way through, then re-write portions that simply sound stale. In fact, don’t be afraid to delete old-style lenses with outdated topics. Replace them with fresh new material using our very popular new lens formats. Still haven’t tried a new-style product review lens? If not, you have no idea what you’re missing. The potential is enormous, so don’t be left out.

New to the site? Consider enrolling in RocketSquid University where you’ll receive helpful tips covering basic and more advanced lensmaking skills, as well as frequent quests that challenge you to work outside your comfort zone. Our helpful greeters work along with the tips and lensmaking assignments to get and keep you on the fast track to Giant Squid, still the destination you should be aiming for. Sound intimidating? It’s absoutely not! Our goal is to help you succeed as you work at your own pace. No pressure, we promise, so why wait? Sign up to join us today.

Keep all these things in mind as you’re defining your goals, planning your work, and working your plan for Squidoo success in 2014. Care to share a target that you’re aiming for this year? We’d love to read all about it in a comment below.

Susan52 didn't know she wanted to be a Giant Squid when she grew up, but here she is and she couldn't be happier about it! When she isn't doing one thing or another here at Squidoo, you'll probably find her spending time with her family or otherwise appreciating life one precious moment at a time.

Thanks for the New Years Day round up! I love the picture! Now I’m wishing I could see some green under my white!

    • Susan52

There’s a chance of the white stuff here overnight. I’m sure hoping they’re wrong. Stay warm, grammieo!

Happy New Year, Susan! My first writing goal for the year is to get a new lens published that will break into Tier 1 and, more importantly, touch someone’s life in a meaningful way. To make that goal measurable, I better say I will publish that lens in the next 24 hours.

    • Susan52

Great project for the first day of the year!

Thanks Susan for the inspiration to get started in the New Year with some lensmaking goals. I am working on creating more personal lenses to let my personality shine through.

  • Upon-Request

Happy New Year :) I’m still fleshing out my active goal list for the new year.

  • Tom Maybrier

My goal for the new year is to write more – I need to branch out and try some new forms of writing.
I will be working on more long form, editorial, personal writing projects.

  • TeacherPat

Thanks for the reminders of the great support available on Squidoo! I’m inspired to step up my writing skills and produce more quality lenses.

Exciting! Happy New Year and new start everybody!

Happy New Year! Love your post! I never was one to stick to my resolutions, so I’ve made a “resolution” but I’m just going to refer to it as a New Years “Goal”, and see if that works better :) My goal is to stop telling myself I want to write more, and start putting my skills to good use. That means more focusing on my writing this year! So I somehow landed on an awesome site, Squidoo! I’m starting the new year off by working on my writing skills, and just enjoying improving as a writer! Squidoo seems to be a great place to start!

Thanks Susan for this kick start to this New Year. It is always great to start again when clock ticks 12. Happy New Year to all. Let’s begin from where it ends.

I certainly have some neat ideas for the coming year, but reality has me in it’s grip at the moment between work and school. When I do have time to surface, revamping a few old lenses are on my to do list as well as adding more DIY projects. Conservation will be the focus of said projects. Love that image, Susan! That is the closest I will get to snow this year. =) Happy 2014!!!

Happy New Years to Susan and all of you. I don’t make resolutions, so my goals continue to be the same… improve my writing, improve my understanding of Squidoo, earn my first blue box, then try to get a blue box every month, even if it’s just a dollar. Oh… and find a way to better organize my time and energy so that my dishes get washed regularly while i’m trying to write! :)
