Dashboard updates: Activity Stream A/B Testing and more
We just released a few small updates to the lensmaster dashboard. The updates are intended to remove a little bit of clutter, and also to help us collect some data so we can figure out the right way to show a lensmaster his ‘activity and messages’ separately from his lens inventory. Especially for accounts that have very long lists of lenses, or lots of good activity that they’re not seeing.
This update includes:
– Removed the ‘Facebook Open Graph’ tagging reminder that was fixed in the sidebar. Getting your lenses all tagged up for the Open Graph is still important, but there is a prompt within the Workshop for untagged lenses. Didn’t want to keep the clutter on your dashboard.
– We moved the Recent Trophies list to live only on the Activity page, in an effort to consolidate some Squidgaming elements and clean up your Lens List tab.
– The main part of the update is this: We updated the Activity page (for some lensmasters*) to show a combined stream of recently earned Squidpoints, Quests, and HQ news in one place.
* Only half of lensmasters will see the new Activity design and elements. The other half will continue seeing the old version of that page for now. After we collect some data, we can decide whether it makes sense to expand on the new design and create a more robust ‘messages and activity’ stream that is valuable and actionable for tracking your own interests and activity and news on Squidoo.
– We also changed what the default landing page is when visiting the Dashboard. For most lensmasters, this test makes the Activity page (old or new) the new default when you visit /lensmaster/dashboard. The exceptions are Giant Squids and some batches of new lensmasters that fall in different A/B tests we’re running. If your new dashboard landing page default is now the Activity page and you’d rather land first on the Lens List, you can easily set an override by clicking the “Make this my main page” link visible on either the Lenses or Activity page (visible only when the page is not the default). We’re running these tests to see how different kinds of lensmasters engage with different SquidActivity they see, to help surface new Quests and integrate HQ conversations, and to get closer to a solution where we can show interesting streams of activity and messages that result in positive action. Without just dumping it all on one page and calling it soup!
In short, not much you need to do, if anything. Just wanted to let you know that we’re trying a few very small tests in order to work our way (based on data and not just anecdotes) to a better organized dashboard.
