What do YOU Love in a Lens?
Browsing a list of lenses this morning I came across several that left a few minor details to be desired.
To the watchful eye, it can be like nails on a chalkboard to see lenses with missing images, default module titles, or an overabundance of sales modules. It’s been said that what bothers us most about other people is a reflection of what we are bothered about in ourselves.
Sometimes Karma is a slap in the face.
If you’re a Giant, you might be racing through your list of lenses to update them in time to maintain your Giant status. I’m right there with you, and more on that later. As I’ve been making my way through a mega list of lenses in my main personal account I found that I have unknowingly committed many of the lens sins I encourage others to fix.
*slaps self on hand*
Missing YouTube videos, outdated custom bios, and guestbook spam abound. Evidently I needed this wake-up call! Off to work I go, and over the next two weeks you can read about my own journey to clean up my accounts and get back to shiny lenses I’m proud to use as examples.
An easy way to determine what is missing in your own lenses to to determine what you love about OTHER lenses, and then apply that to your creations.
* Do you love seeing lots of photos? Make a list of lenses that need more eye candy and schedule a time to shoot new pics.
* Do you love long, personal, passionate stories? Replace those boring paragraphs with more meaningful descriptions.
* Do you love actionable lists? Decide what you want readers to DO after leaving your lens, and post a call to action.
* Do you enjoy duel debates? Ask the hard questions and post links on Facebook to encourage discussion.
* Do you love how some lensmasters always seem to have content updated as new info becomes available? Use Google Alerts to keep up with breaking news.
(Of course, you can make a list to fix what you hate seeing too. This is all about staying positive and encouraging greatness.)
By seeking out the attributes you love most in other lenses and applying them to your own, you’ll consistently have reasons to update your lenses and the best examples from which to learn.
