Getting to know you
With the new Giant Squid renewal and application process in full swing we’ve received a few questions about the “At least 1 lens needs to be an ‘About Me’ lens that describes yourself or your resume or your interests — even just a lensography is fine.” portion of the Join the Giant Squid Club application.
Several lensmasters have voiced concerns about sharing too much private information on a lens. I wanted to set their minds at ease and explain a little bit about what we’re looking for in an “About Me” lens.
Your “About Me” lens doesn’t have to be a biography of your entire life, or any kind of personal resume. Of course those things are fine, if you’re comfortable with sharing that much but it isn’t necessary in order to become a Giant Squid at Squidoo.
Your “About Me” lens can simply be a lens you’ve crafted about your favorite hobby, pet, or vacation. You can submit a lens about your hometown, your favorite author, or a recipe that’s been passed down through your family. The key element we’re looking for in this lens is that it contain something personal to you, or something that gives us a peek at something that makes you special. In other words, something only YOU could write.
A well done lensography is another great way to tell us about yourself. We know our Elder Squids (Squids who have been with Squidoo a while) already know what a lensography is but for our newer members, a lensography is a lens that contains a list of your lenses along with some biographical information. You’ll find help and ideas for creating a stellar lensography at So You Want to Make a Lensography.
If you have any further questions leave them here and I’ll do my best to help. If not, why not share your “About Me” lens here so we can all get to know each other a little better.
