Whit you forever…

There’s a story on this lens, and there’s a story behind this lens.

I chose it for today’s Lens of the Day not out of any particular bias for faith or a religion, but for the journey shared, the process it took, and the person it revealed. I’ve featured several lenses, over time, that impressed me with their courage and skill at introspection. This one is no exception.

In a note to me, this is how Whit described her lens:

“This is my bio. The story is 100% true. When I started making it, I had knots in my stomach, as I felt vulnerable airing my dirty laundry at first. Writing down the history of my nearly lifelong battle with my beloved, but controlling, family was very liberating. As I added to it, I got creative. Soon, I was having a blast by adding some humor and fitting tunes to break it up with! I realize that this could help others to put into perspective their own lives. One thing I want to make clear, however, is that living a Christian life is often like walking a tightrope. Christians are not capable of perfection, but they are asked to be and expected to be by all who misunderstand what Christianity is about.”

No, not every lens needs to be a personal and emotional chronicle. Yes, there’s plenty of room for smart lenses about dog breeds and cake recipes and iPhone hacks and zombie movies, and those are very useful to the people who go looking for them. But sometimes making a lens is about stopping and thinking about what you’re looking for.
