Pinterest for Squidooers

While Pinterest has been around for nearly two years, it’s just now starting to become popular, and MEGA popular with Squidooers. Lensmasters are learning how pinning their photos and letting others share them is creating links back to their lenses and increased traffic in niche circles.

Not yet on Pinterest? Need a primer? Wondering how it can help you create more successful lenses? Get your notes from Vallain in Pinterest Tips for Squidoo Lensmasters.

From scoring an invite to creating your boards and deciding what to pin, Vallain walks you through the basics. Learn how you can use the act of “pinning photos” to promote content, share your lenses with people all over the world, and compete with “big writers.” Pinterest is an addictive new way to give individual authors and crafty individuals an authentic way to get known.

Photos have never been more important, so while you’re at it, consider snapping a few more to give your newly pinned lenses their best look ever.

Kimberly started her career on Squidoo as a lensmaster just like you! She's still staying busy building lenses, testing techniques, and sharing real life examples to help lensmasters succeed on Squidoo.

“Addictive” is right!  Pinterest is super fun and a great resource for those looking for information, especially visual information.  It couldn’t be easier to use, either, with the new Pin It button on our lenses.

I’ve taken a Google+ stance on Pinterest…that is, create an account and never come back. Perhaps I’ll change my ways at some point. Also, it seems like Pinterest is truly a “woman” thing from what I’ve observed!

I have to say that, while it IS heavily populated with women, I do follow a few men who have gotten into Pinterest. (This is true in the scrapbooking world, too — mainly women, but there ARE men out there who pursue this passion as well.)

There are actually a few male quilters out there…I wonder if any are on Pinterest!  (Quilt Dad and Just a Guy Who Quilts)

Some bits do seem a little on the feminine side, I’ll admit that, but I recently backed up my whole activity stream to Pinterest (my own lenses included) and over 2 days, my traffic headed up by about 40.

Since finishing that though, I’ve found that one shouldn’t really use Pinterest as a “self marketing tool” – so I was pleased to see that I had pinned more of other people’s lenses than I had my own.

If you wanted to go for a more masculine feel for your boards, you could upload some pictures of your own, or locate images from elsewhere on the web if you download the “Pin it” button by dragging it to the “Bookmarks tab on your browser.

That’s an interesting statement…come to think of it, I don’t think I have a single guy on my list of people I’m following.

         Hi Kimberly.
You yourself have made your own interesting statment about not having any guys on your follow list. Let me be your first.

I have some traffic from it by creating a board tightly focused on niche which is relevant to  particular lenses. So watching this space.

I too just joined Pinterest less than a month ago, and am HOOKED (almost as addictive as Squidooing). What a great idea — a virtual bulletin board of all the great stuff you see on the web that you may want to retrieve at a later date! Sure beats printing everything out and keeping them in manila folders that will end up never again opened. Will read with interest the ideas from Vallian, whose link you give above. THANKS for the article, Kimberly . . .

Yes I like Pinterest and have quite a few boards. Enjoy using it.
There are men using it Pixelrage, and they seem to be enjoying it.
Have fun, I do not pin other lens-master lens, only my own, if I have other lens-master photos pinned they are all ready on Pinterest, if that is what anyone is interested in, do not want trouble with other Squidoo members..

I would like to be invited if you’d like to invite me.  Thanks for the information!  :)

One would need to know your eMail to invite you.  But I clicked on the button and requested an invite.  It took a day or two but I was approved to participate.  From there I began signing in using my Facebook account.  It’s pretty cool!

Pinterest and copyright do not go together well at all. The hype now is all about using Pinterest as traffic source, backlink farm and marketing tool which is abusing it and against their TOS.

Anyone who pins an image i.e uploads content needs to be owner of copyright and other licenses in order to grant Pinterest the use per their TOS of the uploaded content. (please read the TOS at least once!)

As to Squidoo lenses you can only upload your own material, but then you violate the etiquette because self-promotion is not what they want.
Also Squidoo lenses are commercial websites. Pinterest is only for non-comercial and personal use (see the TOS again). So pinning your own lenses is TOS violation.

If you pin other peoples images you need to ask for permission before, otherwise you violate the authors copyright. I commend to study this blog post of a profesional photographer: http://www.tarabradford.com/2011/12/pinterest-and-copyright.html

Pinterest and Squidoo lenses do not go together well at all, I wish the pin button would be removed from lenses.
Please do not step over my copyright just because you like to collect pretty images!
