Lens of the Day: How To Create A Pictorial Genealogy Record

vintagephotoFor a school project, through paperwork saved by my great-grandmother, my son and I were able to trace our family’s history through eight generations on my mother’s side. With the birth of my granddaughter last year, that makes nine.

It was a fun and interesting assignment but it could have been even better had we done it using photos.

Stop by today’s Lens of the Day, How To Create A Pictorial Genealogy Record by lensmaster Gatekeeper, to learn how you can do just that.

Before you go, tell us.  How many branches of your family tree can you trace?

My aunt has been involved with genealogy for some time now and has been able to trace back to my great, great grandmother’s generation. The problem, including what we believe to be our ancestors on slave records (I am African-American). Back then, slaves were only listed as male or female and approximate age. So there is some limitations on how accurately we can trace back. We made a family calendar one year out of the records my aunt had and included lots of photos and stories. It made a great keepsake.

My family are royalty on both sides so it makes it easier as royalty always kept good records, so I was able to trace back to Adam, strange as it may sound! I have the genealogy reports!

I did a whole lens on geneology, it’s a fun topic and there were more than one “black sheep” in the whole lot, including me! What’s a family tree without a few nuts in it?
