Happy Thanksgiving from Seth

Seth Godin by on Wed, Nov 26th, 2008

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday, and in the middle of all the turmoil and economic craziness, this year is more important than ever.

Let’s start by looking at everything we’ve done together over the last 3 years of Squidoo. We’ve created hundreds of thousands of handbuilt, passionate, interesting, useful, exciting lenses. We’ve raised even more than that for charity, to do things like fund research for a cure for juvenile diabetes, build reading rooms in Cambodia–and we’ve saved some donkeys and ferrets and polar bears along the way.

What’s more, Megan and I have been watching a new trend develop: Our best lensmasters are giving back even more. Not in dollar amounts for charity, but in their time and knowledge. They are mentoring other lensmasters. They are giving their time and their learning, freely, to teach new people how to make lenses, how to make money (even pay rent!) and give money from their work on Squidoo.

Squidoo has become more than just a platform for publishing and sharing and connecting, but a platform for giving.

I wish I could say thanks, by name, to every single one of you. But I can’t. Instead, I’m going to highlight just three lensmasters who hit my radar today (and most days).

http://www.squidoo.com/thefluffanutta: I got an unsolicited email this morning about Tim and the generous help he offers to lensmasters just about every day.

http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/comfortdoc: I was looking at a list of lensmasters that have raised big cash for charity, and I wasn’t surprised at all to see Kirsti near the top of the list. So far, Squidoo has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to some really worthy causes… and you’ve done it with joy and grace.

: Bonnie has figured out that we all have the opportunity not just to participate in a community, but to lead it and make it better. And to do it with optimism and compassion.

You guys, the Giants, the Angels, the people who share and contribute in the forum, you who do so much—I thank each one of you.

Time to enjoy the traditional holiday cephalopod. Be sure to save a tentacle for me!

P.S. Megan made this “Thanks giving project” lens today’s LotD. Not because it’s mine, but because it’s a chance for you to spread the thanks. http://www.squidoo.com/thank-someone-today
