Free Lunch
Happy tax day! Err….
If you’re especially sensitive today to where your taxes are really going, David Cay Johnston’s New York Times bestselling book FREE LUNCH is for you.
“From how George W. Bush got rich off a tax increase to a $100 million taxpayer gift to Warren Buffett, Johnston puts a face on all of the dirty little tricks that business and government pull on the taxpayer. A lot of people appear to be getting free lunches–but there’s no such thing as a free lunch, and someone (you, the taxpayer) is picking up the bill for the people at the very top.”
Not only have I read the book and enjoyed Johnston’s crystal clear and compelling writing style (alarmist? conspiracy theories? you decide)… but I also happen to think the lens should be held up as a fine example to the rest of the book publishing industry.
Publicists, editors, authors: Set up a few good welcome mats for your ideas, let people sound off on the core bits of the book, offer whatever free excerpts or downloads your publishers will allow (heh) and I bet you’ll see your Amazon sales climb. Strike that: I know you will.
