Today, we’re pleased to introduce you to dawnraeb. She’s our “Mid-Atlantic States” Travel Contributor on Squidoo.
Tell us a little bit about your niche topic.
My niche topic is the Mid-Atlantic States Travel. I am fairly loose in what I describe as the Mid-Atlantic region as it is more about a certain feel and an attitude to me as opposed to geographical boundaries. As cowboy hats and Anasazi beans signify the West, the Mid-Atlantic area has specific flavors and icons. I had already written a couple of regional lenses prior to Squidoo starting the niche contributor section. It was a natural and exciting role for me to take on.
Tell us about the moment you fell in love with your topic. Was it an immediate thing or did it happen over time?
I suspect that I fell in love with the region over time. I have written about a specific day during a visit here that was so beautiful I was moved to tears. I was also moved to relocate to the area. I am still exploring and experiencing things the Mid-Atlantic region has to offer. I am still moved to tears at times.
Who had the most influence in your life?
There have been many people who have influenced my life in a variety of ways. It is likely that the person who had the most positive impact on my life isn’t even aware of it. Her name was Terry. While I could probably write a book about how much role models like her touch children’s lives, I will try to summarize briefly.
She took me under her wing and helped me learn to fly. She allowed me to work at her stable in exchange for lessons and time with the horses. I was a hard-working child and she rewarded that with increased responsibilities. I didn’t quite realize it until the day she allowed me to help rehabilitate the beautiful Arabian mare, Meesha. While there were older and more experienced volunteers and stable staff, Terry gave me specific instructions on how to ride Meesha around the track. Rules that I followed literally step-by-step. Meesha was recovering from severe injuries and hadn’t carried a rider for a long period of time.
Through these experiences, Terry instilled in me a work ethic and quiet pride (and the beginnings of a self-esteem). I am thankful for her to this day.
The good news is that as an adult I have found a group of Squidoo writers, much like Terry, who are nurturing, kind, and supportive. They too are a great influence on my life.
